Plane Radar
Install or repair the radar's software from this page.
The radar keeps itself up to date over Wi-Fi, so most people never need this page. Use it to set up a new radar, or to repair one that no longer starts.
What you need
- A computer (Windows, Mac, Linux or Chromebook) with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Phones, tablets, Safari and Firefox cannot do this.
- A USB-C cable that carries data. Some cables only charge; if the radar does not show up in step 3, try a different cable.
Install
- Plug the radar into the computer.
- Press Install below.
- A small window lists devices. Choose the one called USB JTAG/serial debug unit and press Connect.
- Press Install Plane Radar. You are asked whether to erase the radar first — see below. Then confirm.
- Wait one to two minutes until it says it is done. Do not unplug the radar while it is installing.
- Unplug the radar and plug it back into its usual power supply.
No software has been published here yet, so there is nothing to install.
Erase or not?
Erasing deletes everything the radar remembers: the Wi-Fi network and its password, your location, and the display settings. Afterwards the radar starts with a yellow setup screen and you set it up again, just as on the first day.
- Leave it unticked to keep those settings. This is the usual choice for a repair.
- Tick it for the very first install on a new radar, or if the radar still misbehaves after installing without erasing.
If the radar does not appear in the list
- Try another USB-C cable, or another USB port on the computer.
- Unplug the radar. Hold down the small BOOT button on the board, plug the radar in while holding it, then let go, and press Install again.
After installing
If the screen turns yellow, the radar needs its Wi-Fi: on a phone, join the Wi-Fi network PlaneRadar-Setup with the password shown on the radar's screen, then open http://plane-radar.local and choose your home network.
